How do I stay motivated at work after being denied a promotion?

I was told I was performing well, but the company was struggling financially and said they couldn’t justify too many promotions this year. Last year, some colleagues jumped two levels. I know promotions aren’t always fair or equitable, but I’m disappointed and disappointed.

There are a lot of factors involved in employee motivation besides rewards and recognition, including doing work that feels meaningful with purpose.

According to most surveys, two-thirds of employees do not feel particularly motivated at work, including those who receive promotions.

Financial performance certainly affects a company’s ability to promote employees and compensate them more, but if your company is promoting other people regardless of the firm’s financial condition, you have the right to know when you should. Ask why you weren’t promoted, and how it will get you considered for promotion in the future.

If you’re satisfied with that feedback and you have a clear picture of what it takes to grow within the company and you feel motivated to work toward that goal, then go for it. But if you’re still feeling indifferent, start the new year by looking for a new job.
