Most astrologers believe that the energy of these eclipses is active before and after the moon.

“Like humans, dogs should not look at the sun or an eclipse without protection because it can damage their eyes,” Levy told the Post. Although they may not actively look at the Sun, curious people may accidentally look at the Sun. To prevent this, keep them indoors during the peak of the eclipse or, if they must be outside, make sure they are in a shady area out of direct sunlight. If your dog insists on being outside, stay close to him and make sure his eyes are protected from potential harm.

Although the eclipse will be visible across much of the Pacific and South America, no matter where you live, it is recommended to keep pets indoors for the duration of the eclipse.

Create an Indoor Sanctuary

Levy points out that for domestic animals, an eclipse can seem unfamiliar and terrifying, similar to a hurricane.

“Dogs may try to hide, bark excessively, or become clingy because they sense something strange is happening.”

She recommends taking measures to make your nest feel like a safety net for your pet, “Set up a comfortable, safe space where pets can retreat if they feel overwhelmed. This could be their crate with a cozy blanket, a corner of your room, or their favorite bed. Surround them with comforting items such as their favorite toy or a piece of your clothing that smells like you. If your dog responds well to calming sprays or pheromone diffusers, use them to create an even more relaxing environment.

Provide distraction and relaxation

To safely see your pets through the eclipse corridor, Levy suggests offering them a variety of entertainment: “To keep their curious minds away from the strange energy of the eclipse, invest in their : Puzzle toys filled with treats, chew bones, scratching posts, or catnip.

Levy urges owners, or groomers in the case of cats, to stay close, as your presence and pure affection can calm anxious animals.

Monitor post-eclipse behavior

Levy says the effects of the eclipse will be felt for some time before and after the event — and so may your pet’s behavior.

“Some pets may not show any signs of distress during the eclipse, but may exhibit unusual behavior afterward. Keep an eye on your pet after the event has passed.

Give them extra comfort and reassurance if they seem unusually anxious, tired, or clingy. Sometimes, the long-term effects of anxiety do not appear immediately. Make sure that their environment is kept calm for a few hours after the eclipse to avoid overstimulation.

For dogs, Levy recommends walking on the ground after the eclipse and resetting all aspects, “this will allow them to release any tension and get back to their normal form.”
