Amazon’s Fire TV sticks are a boon to those who don’t want to throw away their new TV and spend lots of money on a smart TV. For those unaware, it pretty much converts your old TV to a smart TV powered by Amazon’s FireOS. One of the major complaints with Fire Sticks is their below-average remotes, which can trouble you due to their connectivity or other issues in the long run. If your Fire Stick remote is lost or has stopped working, there’s a workaround to use the Fire Stick via an app. Here’s how.
Connect Fire Stick with Fire TV App
The Amazon Fire TV app supports all Fire TV Sticks. Here’s how to use it:
- First, install the Amazon Fire TV app from the Google Play Store or App Store.
- Launch the app and then give it access to Bluetooth and your location. Make sure your phone and Fire Stick are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Considering your Fire TV stick is up and running, you should see it listed in the Fire TV app. Tap it.
- The app will then ask for a four-digit code. This will be visible on the TV screen that your Fire Stick is connected to. Then, enter this code into the app.
- The Fire TV app will then display button controls for your Fire TV Stick, and this means your smartphone is now connected to the Fire TV Stick.
Use Fire TV App as Fire Stick Remote
Here’s a list of things you can control with the Fire TV app on your iPhone or Android phone:
- Navigate the UI in all directions.
- Go back/ Go Home
- Open the Menu and Settings
- Pause/Play, Forward, Back
- Ask Alexa to search for movies and TV shows
- Launch applications installed on your Fire TV Stick
- Type on the smartphone keyboard and search on Fire TV Stick
- Put the Fire TV Stick to Sleep
- Watch content directly on your phone
Unfortunately, there’s no way to control the volume of your Fire TV Stick. That’s one of the biggest downsides of the app. If you’re unable to use the app as your remote, you can try restarting the Fire Stick.
Do you often find yourself using the official app instead of the Fire Stick remote? Or do you use the app because you have lost your remote and don’t want to spend on a new one? Let us know in the comments below.
