Hundreds of frozen waffle products sold at major grocery stores and retailers have been recalled due to the risk of Listeria contamination, according to their food manufacturer.
TreeHouse Foods, a food processing company based in Oak Brook, Illinois, missed waffle friday And said that “the problem was discovered through routine testing at the manufacturing facility.”
Treehouse said Friday there are no known illnesses linked to the potential outbreak.
The manufacturer said the recalled waffles – which included popular brands such as Best Choice, Target Good & Gather and Walmart Great Value – were distributed throughout the United States and Canada.
Consumers may have some of the recalled products sitting in their freezers.
Food products usually have barcodes on their packaging that indicate when they were produced and on which factory line the food was produced. TreeHouse Foods advises customers to check their freezer for frozen waffle products and find the affected product code Listed on their website,
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, Listeria is a serious infection, with the greatest risk to older adults, immunocompromised people, and pregnant women. It can cause fever, pain, headache, stiffness, confusion, loss of balance, cramps and diarrhea, the agency said.
TreeHouse Foods and the USDA did not respond to requests for further comment.
According to experts, the incubation period of the bacteria ranges from three to 70 days.
