Following an unconditional apology from his father, Hunter Biden faces allegations that he owes former landlords more than $300,000 in unpaid rent.
Sean Maguire, a partner at venture capital firm Sequoia, reacted to the news of Hunter Biden’s pardon by claiming on social media that the president’s son owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid rent.
“So what will happen to the $300k+ back salary rent Hunter Biden owes my family for 2019-2020? Has he been forgiven now? Thanks Joe,” Maguire wrote in a post on X.
The president signed a “full and unconditional pardon” for his son Hunter on Sunday, which applies to federal crimes he committed or committed from January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024.
Hunter Biden faces federal charges related to tax crimes as well as a case related to lying about his substance abuse issues on a gun background check form.
President Biden had earlier said that he would not pardon his son.
“Hunter was our tenant in Venice, CA. Rent has not been paid for more than a year. He tried to pay for art made from his feces. Perfect,” Maguire wrote, adding in a follow-up post that the home was renting for $25,000 a month, located on the canals in Venice, California.
He said Hunter “changed the locks and used the Secret Service to enforce this.” We had no access to the property.”
When a social media user asked if Maguire and his family attempted to evict Hunter Biden for not paying unpaid rent, she said the Bidens are “kind of a scary family.”
Fox Business contacted Maguire and a representative for Hunter Biden.
As Maguire alleges, unpaid rent would be a civil issue and would not fall within the scope of presidential pardons, which apply only to federal crimes.
Maguire’s claim comes after an earlier allegation that Hunter Biden failed to pay thousands of dollars in rent to a landlord.
DailyMail.com reported last year, citing sources familiar with the dispute, that Hunter Biden owed Sweetgreen CEO and co-founder Jonathan Neyman $80,000 in back rent — roughly the amount of a separate $25,000-a-month home in Venice. Three months’ rent.
