A stepdad looking for a little peace and quiet at bedtime hasn’t found anything better.
After struggling to sleep at night, her stepson suggested she try ASMR — a harmless solution, or so you might think.
The 20-year-old had no idea he was recommending a threat to the relationship.
women whisper in his ear
The problems started when his mother found out and did not approve of her husband’s new bedtime routine.
“My mother thought it was strange that he was sleeping with women whispering in her ear,” he said.
His attempt to create a peaceful environment has instead given rise to debate.
“They fight about it often because she finds it weird and borderline cheating,” he said.
He simply wanted to help his stepfather close his eyes, but he admitted that he could see his mother’s side.
“I understand where she’s coming from and how weird it is if you don’t know much about ASMR,” he agreed.
But he insists the whisper videos are completely harmless.
“It’s all pure ASMR that he sees,” she explained.
“I’ve tried to tell her that I introduced her to it, and it’s not sexual in any way, but she still argues about it.”
Now the stepson is feeling guilty about the whole situation.
‘So unsafe’
Hoping for some reassurance, he turned reddit For advice.
Most commentators struggled to understand his mother’s point of view.
“Your mom is acting strange, and it’s not your fault. By their logic, listening to music sung by women or watching movies with female artistes can also be ‘borderline cheating,” said one user.
“Is there a reason why your mother is so insecure?” The other one asked.
“She better stay away from audiobooks,” a third joked.
One commentator suggested a possible explanation for her frustration: misophonia.
It is a condition that produces a strong reaction to certain sounds such as chewing or a pen clicking.
“I find that my anger kicks in after about 30 seconds of being forced to listen to ASMR,” he shared.
For now, his stepfather has put a stop to ASMR, but that hasn’t completely resolved the tension.
“She still brings it up, and I can’t help but think it’s all my fault,” the stepson said.
Who knew that sleeping quietly could make so much noise?
