‘I saved thousands into my kids’ bank accounts and anyone can do it’

Budgeting these days is rough.

You meal plan, you change your energy and mobile providers, you try to drive less, maybe you limit your kids to one or no extra-curricular activities.

It might seem impossible to save for your kids, but a mom posting as @CyanSocial on TikTok has shared how she’s saved thousands for her children.

“We started recycling a few years ago, and the money collected has gone into our children’s savings accounts,” she posted on TikTok.

“My kids have a few thousand in their bank accounts because we recycle,” she said in the video.

“If you’re not recycling, you’re missing out on money.”

The mom said that while her kids reap the benefits of recycling, families can use the money in other ways.

“You can put the money aside for family activities and holidays.”

In the video, the mom showed how she collects recyclables into black bins which fit neatly in the back of the car.

“We take the cans to our local recycling center, they sort it into cans and bottles. We have the option of cash or directly into your account,” she said.

Followers loved the idea, with many already recycling for cash.

“This is what me and my sister do. We have made $86 after two months and we use the same tubs as you!” one person said.

“My partner and I have been recycling bottles and cans (from neighbors and family) for 18 months now and have gotten $1100,” said another.

“We saved with the help of family and friends and used the money to help pay for our wedding,” said a third person.

“Thousands? My brother only got $20 after three months,” one person said.

“Both grandparents also let us keep their cans. We have been collecting since 2019,” the mom replied.

One person pointed out a technical detail.

“You aren’t actually saving money. They charge you a tax on the item, so technically people who don’t bother recycling are wasting money,” one person said.

“I can see that!” the mom replied.

“I would rather have the money than give it away.”
