He was so close – and yet so far.
A woman who has been searching for her biological family for years after being adopted as a child was shocked to find her grandfather living just down the road.
“It turned out he lived about a five-minute walk from my house,” said Sammy Wilson, 41, of the shocking revelation. liverpool echo,
Adopted at the age of five, Wilson did not learn about her past until she was 16.
And when Briton turned 18, she was able to access her birth records – leading her to decide to seek out her long-lost relatives.
Happily, Wilson, who is from St Helens, England but lives in Blackpool, was successfully reunited with his mother and father.
But then, her family reported that her grandfather, Cyril Fletcher, was around her the whole time. After visiting him and learning how close he really was to her, she was naturally shocked.
“I could pass him on the street,” recounted Wilson, who eventually “got up the courage and knocked on the door.”
Despite not seeing each other for 20 years, her grandfather knew exactly who she was. “I don’t know how he got here from St. Helens and he’s had a stroke, so can’t really talk, I’d like to know more,” Wilson said.
Unfortunately, her reunion with her parents was more short-lived than Wilson expected. His mother died of pneumonia at the age of 62 after a few “lovely years together” – notably at the end – while his father died of cancer at the age of 47, just five months after seeing their pride and joy again. Died from.
“It was great to be reunited, I just wish we had more time,” lamented the mother of four, who managed to make the most of the brief time they spent together.
Wilson explained, “[In that time] He managed to meet my eldest child, see the birth of his first grandchild and see me get married.”
Losing his parents inspired Briton to locate his remaining relatives so he could spend as much time as possible with them. First on her agenda is to locate her grandfather’s brother, Roy, about whom she does not know much, only that he may still be in St. Helens.
“He [Roy] This is the last of my biological family,” Wilson explained. “I’ve already lost my father, mother, aunt, and there’s another child in my picture with Roy and I want to know who that child is.”
She added, “It would be great to find my real family because I have kids, I want them to meet them. For me, family is everything.”
