I wish she could have become the mother of all of us.
A protective parent in Arizona is allowing her kindergartner to “get out” of doing her homework — simply because the workload is too stressful, she claims.
A TikTok mum named Kelly took to the popular social media platform to explain how she and her five-year-old son burst into tears after looking at a lengthy work packet – estimated to be between 15 and 20 double-sided pages – because of the intensity of its routine.
“We are working on it and trying to do the best we can.” he told his online audience,
The angry mum revealed she felt huge “guilt” at forcing her child to do nothing but work during her holiday time.
“I just sent a lovely email to my son's kindergarten teacher saying I'm sorry because of the stress, mental, physical anxiety this is causing my child and we're done with this.”
Drawing a comparison with the professional world, he said most people hit their emotional limits after spending “eight to ten hours” on the job, and said the same should apply to their child.
“Work to live, we do not live to work.”
A kindergarten teacher in the video's comments agreed with this philosophy.
“I never send homework unless parents specifically ask me to, and I always tell them it’s optional,” he said.
Another wrote, “I am strongly against homework – there is no reason for it.”
However, some people lectured Kelly as if she were a child herself.
One knowledgeable person said, “Your attitude toward school will translate into your child's attitude toward school. If you make it look like a terrible job, they will do the same.”
“I’ve heard that, but then I thought 50% of the population in the US has a reading level equivalent to 7th grade,” someone said plainly.
