This brave restaurant server is not shying away from work.
An unlucky waitress has revealed her inconvenient phobia for anyone in the food service industry: the fear of tomato-based sauces.
Alexandria Govan, 23, explains how her “fear of ketchup” has affected her work, sharing a tiktok video While she was refilling Heinz ketchup bottles her mouth started watering and she started convulsing.
“I developed a fear of ketchup after my sister sprayed a bottle of ketchup on me,” the Glasgow waitress told Jam Press. She told that she has had this fear since she was 12 years old.
“The smell, even the color, makes me shudder.”
Govan – who dislikes most other sauces, such as mayo – said she hates the condiments “so much” that she gets nervous even hearing the sound of customers squeezing the bottle in restaurants.
“When I handle ketchup at work, I have to hide my sigh from it,” she said. “I think the vinegar smell bothers me the most.”
Although it sounds unorthodox, the phobia – which, apparently, is called “Mortusecusphobia”- seemed to be prevalent among people in the comments section. Some people even said that they would “cry” if they had to handle the spice.
“I actually thought I was the only person in the world who was afraid of ketchup,” one viewer wrote.
“Ketchup is the devil,” commented another.
“I hate ketchup so much,” one user said.
“Ketchup phobia is very real,” chimed in someone else.
Another wrote, “I thought it was just me that was afraid I couldn’t afford it.”
However, some viewers rolled their eyes.
“It’s ketchup buddy, give it a rest,” one person scolded.
Someone else quipped, “Can’t remember the last time someone survived a ketchup encounter.”
Another said: “I love ketchup so much, I could eat spoonfuls of it.”
