Department of Posts To Implement Geocoded Addressing System

According to the Ministry of Communications, this technology would enhance emergency response, public service delivery, and logistics effectiveness while supporting geospatial governance.

Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of Communications, examined the Department of Posts’ 100-day action plan. For the sake of the country and its people, the action plan is concentrated on improving efficiency and changing the way services are delivered.

Ministry of Communications said in a statement, “This grid-based geo-coded addressing system will serve as a robust pillar of Geospatial Governance, leading to enhancements in public service delivery, faster emergency response, and a significant boost to logistics efficiency.”

Initiated Proof of Concept (PoC) testing has been conducted in ten villages and one metropolis throughout India. To create a knowledge support relationship, an agreement was reached on July 5, 2024, with the National Institute of Urban Affairs.

A second Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create a technical assistance relationship is being worked on with ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).

As per the statement, “These partnerships aim to leverage advanced technologies and expertise to provide precise mapping and addressing solutions, ultimately revolutionising service delivery across the country.”

Goal of the Collaboration: To Provide Accurate Addresing Solutions

The goal of these collaborations is to use cutting-edge knowledge and technology to provide accurate mapping and addressing solutions.

The Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra program was introduced by the Department of Posts to assist small-scale and rural exporters. Assistance with documentation, market data, barcode label printing, and paperless customs clearance are all provided by the program.

The program, which is in line with the “One District—One Product” strategy, encourages the use of locally produced goods and fosters rural and economic development. In 100 days, the Department hopes to register 3000 new exporters on the Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra portal.

The Department of Posts wants to make the nation’s socioeconomic progress and standard of living better by increasing accessibility and efficiency.
