An inmate at the Westchester County Jail died Friday of a possible drug overdose, The Post has learned.
Derek Ali, who was being held in Yonkers on assault and weapons charges, was found unconscious in his cell on Oct. 25, according to a statement Monday from Department of Corrections Commissioner Joe Spano.
Authorities brought Ali to Westchester Medical Center, but he died that evening, the statement said.
Although the county has not elaborated on the cause of death, sources told The Post that officials are investigating whether Ali died of a drug overdose.
The DOC and county police are investigating the death, Spano said, as well as the State Corrections Commission and the attorney general.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our residents and we extend our condolences to his family and loved ones,” he said.
“As part of standard procedures, an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.”
Ali was in jail since August 20.
