A 398-page copy reviewed by The Post details RFK Jr.’s daily activities, speeches, political activism and the lives of his six children in 2001.
But they also record women's names – with numbers from 1 to 10 next to each entry.
Mary told a confidante that the codes were related to sexual acts, with 10 meaning intercourse.
The ledger contains the names of 37 women, 16 of whom received 10 shillings.
On November 13, 2001, R.F.K. Jr. recorded a triple play.
The separate meetings — codes 10, 3 and 2 — occurred on the same day he attended a black-tie fund-raiser for Christopher Reeve's charity at the Waldorf-Astoria, where he sat next to the paralyzed “Superman” star, magician David Blaine and comedian Richard Belzer.
It was quite a busy month for Kennedy, traveling to Toronto, Louisiana and Washington DC — and listing at least one woman's name on 22 different dates, including 13 consecutive days.
Most women are identified in the ledger by their first name only.
These include a lawyer, an environmental activist, a doctor and at least one woman who is married to a famous actor.
On Friday, when a Post reporter asked Kennedy about the diary, he was initially met with six seconds of stunned silence.
“I don't think you can have any of my diaries or journals from 2001,” Kennedy said then. “I have no comment on that. I don't have any diaries from 2001.”
The diary is filled with Catholic guilt over Kennedy's infidelity, similar to the relationships between his uncles John F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy and his own father.
On days when there was no woman's name, Kennedy would often write “Victory.”
According to a source close to Richardson, this meant that he had triumphantly resisted sexual temptation.
“Despite all the terrible things happening in the world, my life … is wonderful,” he wrote on November 5, 2001. “So I'm looking for ways to screw it up. I'm like Adam and live in Eden, and I can have everything except fruit. But I only want fruit.”
The 59-year-old son of a slain U.S. senator was so tormented by his own desires that spending a month in prison in Puerto Rico was a welcome relief.
“I'm very content here,” he wrote while imprisoned for participating in a protest against U.S. Navy bombing exercises in Vieques in July 2001. “I must say it. There are no women here. I'm happy! Everybody seems happy here. It's not misogyny. It's the opposite! I love them so much.”
Still, Kennedy says, “I love my wife, and I tell her that every day, and I never tire of writing her love letters.”
Nine years later, he and his wife separated when Kennedy filed for divorce.
And on May 16, 2012, the 52-year-old Richardson committed suicide by hanging himself in an outbuilding on the couple's Bedford estate.
Kennedy's cheating became a major issue in the marriage.
Richardson told a friend that her husband wrote the names of his romantic conquests on the back pages of his diary under the heading “cash accounts.”
The journal begins with the news that Richardson is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child.
The couple had known each other since Richardson was 14 and the boarding school roommate of Kennedy's younger sister, Kerry.
They married in 1994, just weeks after Kennedy divorced his first wife, Emily Black, with whom he had two children.
When Richardson married, she was pregnant with her first child, Connor.
They moved into a 1920s clapboard house in Westchester County.
Kennedy, who was an environmental lawyer and board president of the nonprofit Waterkeeper Alliance, spent much of his time traveling to give speeches, according to his diary.
He was considering a possible run for the Senate from New York before Hillary Rodham Clinton recently swept the election. Richardson stayed home with the children.
The beautiful brunette struggled with depression and alcoholism. Her husband described her as a “battler against demons” at her funeral.
When he died the couple was not divorced and were fighting bitterly over custody and financial issues.

A sealed document was leaked to the press, in which Kennedy portrayed his wife as an alcoholic who assaulted him and threatened suicide in front of the children.
According to published reports, Kennedy said in the affidavit that by 2001 he had “lost hope” in his marriage and was “committing numerous infidelities to maintain his sanity.”
But his diary paints a different picture. He rarely mentions his wife's emotional problems, only her struggle with depression.
While he was in prison in Puerto Rico, he wrote on July 8 that “I finally spoke to my wonderful wife and it was a joy for me. She is very strong and cheerful.”
The couple's son, Aiden, was born just days later. He writes: “I am so proud of my Mary. She has become the woman I love – through hard work. She has overcome her fears, strengthened her faith, abandoned self-pity and blame, and immersed herself in gratitude and God has given her a child … a beautiful and peaceful and happy soul. I am so happy. I couldn't be more happy or grateful for the life and wife God has given me.”
He also took time to reflect on his weaknesses.
“After my dad died I struggled to grow up… I thought he was watching me from heaven. Every time I was consumed by sexual thoughts, I felt like a failure. I hated myself. I started lying – to create a character who would be the hero and leader I wanted him to be,” he wrote on July 25.
Kennedy writes at the end of his prison sentence that he has a “three-point plan” to “cure my greatest shortcoming … my demons of lust.” He does not write down the plan, leaving the next days of the diary blank.
An entry from five days later reads, “Drove up to the Cape with Mary and all the children.”
By mid-August he again records the names of women at the end of his diary.
Kennedy avoids describing in detail his conquests and, oddly, portrays himself as a kind of victim. He uses the word “mugged” as a shorthand for seduced.
On Feb. 6, he wrote, “I narrowly escaped being double-teamed (by two women). It was tempting, but I prayed and God gave me the strength to say 'no.'” A few days later, on Valentine's Day, he gave orchids to his pregnant wife, he wrote.
On May 21, he writes about hosting a dinner for Leonardo DiCaprio, bringing the actor to town, and then meeting someone else in Manhattan.
He wrote that he was “robbed while returning home”, and wrote down the number 10, followed by a woman's name.
“I have to do better,” he added.
In another entry, he tells himself to “avoid the company of women. You have no strength to resist their charms” and “Be modest like a monk. Keep your hands to yourself. Keep your eyes closed.”
“I've got everything I could ever want – a beautiful wife and children and loving family, money, education, good health and a job I love, yet I'm always looking for something I can't have. I want it all,” Kennedy writes in the summer of 2001. “No matter how much I have – I want more.”
Meanwhile, Kennedy's rep has said he met Nuzzi only once — when she came to his California home to interview him while hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains.
