Jenna Ortega never dated Johnny Depp.
The “Wednesday” star, 21, shut down the “insane” rumor that she had “a serious relationship” with Depp, 61, during her “Puppy Interview” with BuzzFeed on Monday.
Ortega was asked about the “craziest rumor” she’s ever heard of herself, answering, “Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to leave us alone.”
“It’s so insane to me,” she added. “I never spoke on that. I never said anything like that.”
Ortega went on, “I thought that that was pretty hilarious. I was on set with Richard E. Grant and he came up to me and he said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny…’ and I laughed because I don’t know that person.”
The “Scream VI” actress was linked to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star by the gossip blog Deuxmoi in Aug. 2023.
The account claimed that Ortega and Depp had been spotted together and were possibly working together on Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
Ortega dismissed the rumors at the time on Instagram, writing, “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”
Depp’s rep also insisted the rumors were a lie in a statement to NME.
“Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever,” the rep said. “He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be.”
The statement added, “He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
Ortega has been private about her love life. She told Elle last year that she is happily single and that “the idea of relationships stresses” her out.
Depp, meanwhile, is reported to be dating Russian model Yulia Vlasova, 28.
The couple reportedly met in Prague, where Vlasova is based, in August 2021 at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
This is one of Depp’s first relationships since he emerged victorious in June 2022 in his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.
Despite what Deuxmoi said last year, Depp is not expected to be in the “Beetlejuice” sequel that was directed by Burton, 66, and comes out Sept. 6.
Depp has worked with the famous director on various films, most notably “Edward Scissorhands” (1990), “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (2005), “Sweeney Todd” (2007) and “Alice in Wonderland” (2010).
In “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Ortega is playing Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara are also reprising their roles from the beloved 1988 film, while Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe and Burton’s girlfriend Monica Bellucci are new cast members.
Burton praised Ortega in a recent interview with BFI, calling her “one of the most aware” actors in the business.
“She’s a very special talent. And she’s done a lot of horror movies, which I love too,” Burton said. “That gave her a special place in my heart. ‘Oh, you’re doing another horror. Good.’ “
