“it's Showtime” For Jenna Ortega.
The 21-year-old actress' outfit choices lately aren't as strange and unusual as they might seem – at least not for the star of director Tim Burton's film. ” Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,
The actress has been paying homage to the 1988 classic film “Beetlejuice,” celebrating the fashion from the original movie and promoting the sequel on red carpets around the world.
In their most recent take on the original film, Ortega and his team got creative with a structured gray and black Harris Reed ensemble inspired by a sculpture created by Catherine O’Hara’s character, Delia Deetz, in the original film. According to stylist Enrique Melendez,
The set was decorated with black velvet opera gloves and a miniature model of the Deetz family's haunted house as purses for the London premiere.
In Venice, Ortega wore a custom red sheer Dior gown with a heart-shaped top and a pleated bottom, a tribute to Winona Ryder's character Lydia Deetz's iconic red wedding dress.
It seems the actress is particularly fond of Michael Keaton's character Beetlejuice's wedding dress.
He has paid homage to this look by presenting the burgundy suit twice in different variations.
Ortega wore a custom burgundy Paul Smith suit in Venice, and a burgundy blazer dress with contrasting red lapels from Alexander McQueen and pillar box red rights in London.
On another day of press, Ortega was spotted wearing a flowing floral Giambattista Valli Paris gown with a handbag dedicated to the recently deceased — and makeup that made her look like she was a recently deceased person.
The handbag — which is a reference to the creepy handbook featured in the movie — appears to have become a favorite item of Ortega and “Beetlejuice” fans.
Though this look might not match the rest of the gothic “Beetlejuice” lookbook, Melendez shared The style was inspired by Geena Davis' Beetlejuice character, Barbara Maitland.
Even while traveling, Ortega doesn't break character. The actress was spotted at the 81st Venice Film Festival dressed as Alec Baldwin's character, Adam Maitland.
Ortega wore a black and white plaid blazer over a red top, paired with a pleated khaki sans faux mini skirt.
One of the looks that received the most praise was Ortega's near-replica of Lydia Deetz's final look.
The actress copied the outfit with a Thom Browne navy blue sweater customized with insignia, a white collared button-down, and a plaid skirt.
This was the first time she was seen holding the handbag of the recently deceased person.
And what look nods to “Beetlejuice” more than a striped suit?
Ortega delighted fans by wearing a long-sleeved, pinstriped suit dress designed by Dolce & Gabbana. Melendez described the look as “soft goth glam La Bella Mafia vibes” — Beetlejuice probably wouldn't have worn designer.
Stepping out in New York City, Ortega stunned in a short tuxedo jacket, a semi-transparent black lace dress, and matching platform heels.
The sight is reminiscent of Lydia's black veiled dress.
At the film's premiere in Mexico, Ortega wore a custom strapless teal Lurline dress with a shrunken head molded into the structured bodice and stitched around her legs.
Its unique feature is a fun nod to the shrunken heads featured in the '80s film – and they may pop up in the new sequel, too.
Ortega walked on a custom patent Mary Jane snakeskin pattern platform on another carpet in Mexico, inspired by the snake heads featured in the first film.
To match the dark and spooky vibes of the “Beetlejuice” cinematic world — and the shoes — the actress wore a vintage Vivienne Westwood dress, which Melendez said “really exists in” Tim Burton’s world
The dress extended from her chest to her arms, and was made of nude fabric, with black curved lines covering her entire body.
