Jewish students and staff have been routinely attacked, threatened, and harassed during anti-Israel protests on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles, according to the school’s Anti-Semitism Task Force.
The group’s new 93-page report finds that as protests over the war in Gaza began at UCLA, public displays of anti-Semitism occurred at a large scale at the school, ranging from swastikas drawn on classroom chalkboards to camping. Even waving signs were included. : “The Israelites are the natives of two hells,” The Wall Street Journal first reported,
Authorities also found a disturbing statue of a pig holding a bag of money next to the Star of David in March, with a clock hanging above its head that read, “Time is running out.”
“This report provides new evidence, assessments, and recommendations related to the recent increase in anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias at UCLA,” the task force wrote.
“It is critical that the University address these matters in a timely manner to stem the exodus of Jews and Israelis from UCLA and reduce discrimination and anti-Semitism on campus.”
One of the 428 people who spoke to the task force recalled an incident where he was attacked by a protester on campus for wearing an Israeli flag during a demonstration.
“There were some people praising Hamas whose main goal (also stated in their charter) is to kill Jews. “I was told by people to kill myself,” he said.
Students and others said the demonstrations ultimately prevented them from attending their classes, a tactic that a judge ruled illegal in August. Condemned the so-called “Jewish exclusion zone” On campus.
The report also highlights violent clash This happened on the night of 30 April on the campus, where agitators stormed the protesters’ camp, leading to a bloody brawl and firecrackers were thrown at the protesters.
The task force alleged that the chaos that erupted that night was “the result of the UCLA administration’s reluctance to take action against encampments until violence broke out.”
The report ultimately criticized the school and administration for prioritizing their views on freedom of expression over the safety and well-being of students and staff.
UCLA officials told The Post that the school’s interim Chancellor Darnell Hunt, who created the anti-Semitism task force in February, has received the report and is grateful for the months of work.
“He is carefully reviewing the report and its recommendations to determine the best ways for UCLA to strengthen our ongoing efforts to combat anti-Semitism and protect the well-being of the entire Bruin community,” the school said. “
