Now back home with his family, the 68-year-old has posted several messages. Instagram He talked about how thrilled he was to be out of the hospital.
“I can't describe how good I feel to be back in my bed, in my home and in my beautiful garden. Lots of pampering, of course,” he said on monday,
Barnes has now begun a high-protein diet and continues to work with his physio, which he said is “getting harder”.
“If I want a high-protein diet, I've come to the right place,” he said of his wife, Jane Barnes' cooking skills.
Dishes he prepares include Barnes' favorite dish, lobster Mornay, as well as cranberry protein shortbread, protein shakes, and a double cheeseburger.
“I'm pumping protein and iron to rebuild the muscles I never had,” he explained in an Instagram caption.
The Working Class Man singer required surgery after experiencing pain in his hip while travelling to perform in New Zealand.
“Unfortunately, I have some bad news,” Barnes said in an Aug. 3 Facebook post.
“I felt pain in my hip when I was leaving Dunedin (New Zealand) on Thursday morning and by late last night the pain became unbearable so I went to the hospital.
“The doctors have recommended a corrective medical procedure as soon as possible followed by some physiotherapy to resolve the problem. These doctors don't give a shit!
He added: “If everything goes according to plan I expect to be fully recovered in six weeks.”
“However, as a result of this unexpected surgery, my August and September solo shows will be affected.
“Ticket holders will be contacted in the coming days to provide further information when we have new plans.”
“As you know, I hate to disappoint anyone, but I'm never going to compromise on the quality of my gigs. I apologize for the inconvenience this causes everyone – I hate moving shows! – but thank you for understanding.”
Before the surprise surgery, Barnes was back to his best form, posting photos and videos of his exercise routine following his open-heart surgery in 2023.
In December, he revealed that the bacterial infection he was battling had spread to his heart.
“Despite everyone's best efforts, the bacterial infection I have been battling for the last two weeks has now spread to my heart,” Barnes said at the time.
“It has infected a healthy valve that was replaced a few years ago due to a birth defect, so I will be having open-heart surgery in the next few hours to remove the infection and put in a clean valve.
“Obviously it will put me out of action for a while. I know a lot of other people are dealing with much worse situations, but it still feels very depressing.”
