Close the door on Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner's divorce drama.
The former couple completed the divorce process on Tuesday, according to news agency Xinhua. TMZA little more than a year after Jonas, 35, filed a petition to end their marriage The 'Game of Thrones' star, 28.
The judge officially signed off on the divorce after the former couple reached an amicable settlement, however, its terms have been kept confidential.
The divorce ends the couple's four-year marriage. Jonas and Turner began dating in 2016 and married in a spontaneous ceremony in Las Vegas on May 1, 2019. They welcomed their first daughter Willa in 2020, followed by Delphine in 2022. Jonas filed for divorce on or around September 1.
The divorce was acrimonious from the start, mainly due to a bitter fight over the custody of their two daughters – Willa (4) and Delphine (2).
Shortly after posting a joint statement on social media in September 2023 in which they announced they had “mutually decided to amicably end their marriage,” Turned filed a lawsuit against Jonas, accusing him of “child kidnapping.”
Turner alleged that Jonas withheld their children's passports so they couldn't travel to Sophie's hometown in England.
The legal filing submitted by the actress' lawyers states that the couple's breakup “happened very abruptly” following an argument on August 15, 2023. Turner also revealed that she found out “through the media” that Jonas had filed for divorce.
However, Jonas' team immediately disputed Turner's story.
“Sophie knew Joe was going to file for divorce,” a rep for Jonas told The Post at the time.
Speaking on the child abduction allegation, the representative said, “Joe is seeking shared parenting with the children so that they can be raised by both their parents, and of course he also agrees that the children be raised in both the US and the UK. The children were born in the US and have lived most of their lives in the US. They are US citizens.”
The rep added, “This is an unfortunate legal disagreement regarding a marriage that is tragically coming to an end.”
“When language such as 'abduction' is used, it is misleading at best, and at worst a serious abuse of the legal system. The children were not abducted. The children are currently with their mother, after being in Joe's care for the last three months with the consent of both parties. Sophie is making this claim simply to transfer the divorce proceedings to the UK and permanently remove the children from the US.”
Jonas and Turner then entered mediation to sort out property and custody agreements in October 2023. The decision proved to be beneficial as the couple announced that a judge had put their New York child custody case on hold after the estranged spouses reached a mutual agreement that their children would split their time between Jonas' home in the US and Turner's home in the UK.
“We look forward to being wonderful co-parents,” they said in a joint statement.
There has been a lot of speculation over the reasons for the couple's marriage breakdown. When news broke that Jonas had filed for divorce, a source close to the family said that Page Six The “Sucker” singer and the “X-Men” actress have had “many disagreements” over the past weeks, and divorce was a “last resort” for Jonas.
“He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to do what he felt was the best move for his girls,” the insider added.
“An unhappy home is no home at all, and the truth is that he and Sophie have been going through that this year. There's a lot of noise out there, but it wasn't a situation that broke everything down, as it's being made out to be.”
Another source close to Jonas told TMZ At the time, “He likes to party, she likes to stay home. Their lifestyles are very different.”
That report and others prompted a fierce backlash from Turner's fans and other observers on social media, who felt Jonas was conducting a “smear campaign” against his then-wife.
Jonas and Turner, who are now legally single, have begun dating new friends. Turner is dating British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson, while Jonas is reportedly involved with Lebanese actress Laila Abdullah after a fling with actress Stormi Bree.
