“The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart mocked “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for their hypocrisy in rushing to meet with President-elect Donald Trump — after the pair criticized Democrats who Called him a threat to democracy.
Stewart played a clip of MSNBC hosts explaining his decision to travel to Mar-a-Lago during his commencement speech on Monday night.
“For those who are asking why we would go talk to the President-elect in such difficult times, especially among us, I guess I would ask in response – why not us?” Brzezinski said.
Stewart quipped: “Because you said he was Hitler.”
The comedian also criticized congressional Democrats who have stood by Trump since he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris on November 5.
Stewart said, “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Republicans are playing chess, and Democrats are in the nurse’s office because they’ve stuck their balls to their thighs.”
Scarborough and Brzezinski were oblivious to the backlash they received from Democrats during their show Tuesday.
“Yesterday I saw firsthand how big a gap there was between social media and the real world because we were inundated with phone calls all day, literally from all over the world, from people, all very positive, very supportive,” Scarborough said.
“But sometimes I’d get a message or a call from someone like, ‘Oh, man, I hope you’re OK,'” he added.
He listened to a call from frequent MSNBC guest Eddie Glaude.
“I’d say: ‘Are you on Twitter?’ And he says, ‘I am.’ I’ll go ‘Well, I’m not so we had a good day. Micah’s show was amazing and it’s great.’ We will all try our best and we are all working towards a better America.
According to Brzezinski, the married Trump critic has turned up the heat since she disclosed her affair with Trump — the first time in the seven years she met him.
He had fiercely criticized Trump in his show before Election Day. Brzezinski called him a “disgusting, racist, bigoted, tired, old…branding-obsessed narcissist.”
In September, Scarborough said that comparing Trump to Hitler was “not a reach”.
But on Friday, the co-hosts met with Trump at his Florida estate, where Scarborough said they talked about “a range of issues, including abortion, mass deportation, political opponents and threats of political retaliation against media outlets.”
“Oh, I bet you’re really up to the challenge, Joe,” Stewart joked. “I’m sure you walked over there and let him have it all, right, Joey?”
Stewart then presented a one-act play called “Joe and Mika Go to Mar-a-Lago.”
“‘Mr. President, your rhetoric is outrageous,'” Scarborough said, imitating MSNBC hosts. “‘I can’t in good conscience say — oh, is that Macron?’
He criticized Democratic representatives who tried to positively influence the election results instead of accepting defeat, calling it a “s-show”.
“We learned nothing!” he shouted.
Stewart echoed comments from Washington Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal celebrating diversity among the newly elected House Dems, who also include the first trans member and youngest member elected to the House from New Jersey.
“Wait until you hear that this record-breaking young phenom from New Jersey is 38 years old! 38 years old!” Stewart said. “How far are we going with this? Oh, in Illinois, we picked a ginger!”
