Days after Mayor Adams was federally indicted, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams is reported to have signed contracts with people who will help him sway the race – the latest sign the progressive is preparing a bid for the potential pol. Mayor’s special electionsources told The Post.
Williams, Who will replace Hizzoner? If he leaves office, a pair of $10,000 invoices dated Oct. 1 for consulting work by strategists Alex Voetsch and Tripp Yang, both of whom handled his 2019 Public Advocate campaign, were noted, campaign finance records show.
Veteran Democratic campaign consultant Hank Sheinkopf said, “If someone walks like a duck, talks like a duck, they’re a duck.”
By spending the money now, Sheinkopf said, “(Williams) is telling everyone who wants to run that if someone is special, he is serious.”
Sources familiar with Williams’ strategy said he is preparing for “any eventuality”, whether it be his re-election as public advocate or running as an incumbent in the non-partisan special mayoral election. Should Adams resign or be removed from office?
A source said, “Although no official decision has been made, I think he is leaning toward running in a special (election) if he is the current, acting mayor.”
“Getting my old team back together was a priority to be ready at any moment.”
Williams avoided directly answering whether he would make a bid for City Hall But speculations intensified Adams was charged with bribery and wire fraud just days after sending a fundraising email.
Other well-known pollsters considering whether to jump into the potential race include Former disgraced governor Andrew Cuomo and state Attorney General Letitia James.
