Justin Timberlake and Matthew Lawrence disagreed over their affection for Danielle Fishel on the set of “Boy Meets World” in the early 2000s.
Lawrence, 44, recalled her feud with the “SexyBack” singer, 43, on Monday’s episode. “Pod Meets World” Podcast The show will be hosted by Fishel, 43, and her former co-stars Will Friedle and Rider Strong.
“I don't know if you guys — well, of course, you remember this — but when *NSYNC kept coming to the set? I found out years later, when I bumped into Justin, that he thought I wasn't good enough,” Lawrence told her fellow “Boy Meets World” alumni.
“He didn't like me. And he told me that to my face,” Lawrence said.
The actor, who played Jack Hunter in the coming-of-age sitcom, said that at the time he was a “huge fan” of Timberlake, whose debut album, 2002’s “Justified,” had just come out.
However, tensions between the two became apparent when Lawrence contacted Timberlake.
“I don't remember anything about that, and he was like, 'Oh yeah? Yeah? Now you want to be friends with me? You were so mean on set,'” Lawrence recalled. “And then I remember a little bit.”
The “Mrs. Doubtfire” star admitted he was “pretty shy at the time,” then revealed another reason why Timberlake didn't like him.
She said, “I had a crush on Daniel. And these guys kept coming on set, like, trying to woo him!”
Strong, 44, confirmed that the members of *NSYNC — Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, Chris Kirpatrick and JC Chasez — were “constantly circling around Daniel in a circle.”
“I was wondering if you were going to say that!” Fishel said in response to Lawrence admitting his crush on her. “I was like, 'I also know why he was maybe a little different.'”
Strong went on to explain how the boy band flattered Fishel on the set of the show.
“I remember we were always thinking, 'These people! Oh my god, here they come.' And we would see Danielle, like, completely ignore us all,” Strong recalled. “We would lose our sister. We would lose her, and we would think, 'Oh my god. She completely changes around them. She completely changes.'”
Friedel, 48, said Fishel had a “one in five chance” of making the group, and joked about how he ultimately chose Bass, 45. The two dated for several years before Bass came out as gay.
“I found comfort and security in knowing that nothing was going to happen,” Fishel joked about her relationship with Bass.
Returning to the Timberlake-Lawrence feud, Lawrence said she “never had a chance to explain” to Timberlake that she liked Fishel, which led to the feud between them.
