Most Democrats still want Vice President Kamala Harris to be the party’s 2028 presidential nominee — despite her crush Defeat of newly elected President Donald Trump In this election, a new survey shows.
Nearly 41% of likely Democratic voters said they would vote for the veep at the top of the Democratic ticket in four years — while none of his other competitors reached double digits, according to Puck News/Echelon Insights Survey Released on Wednesday.
California Governor Gavin Newsom came in second, but only 8% of those who voted made his choice, while Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro trailed behind him at 7%.
Meanwhile, the poll shows only 6% of voters will choose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz – Harris’s 2024 running mate.
Only 4% of pollsters said they would support New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the party’s preferred candidate, while Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer received 3% of the vote.
On the opposite side of the political aisle, 37% of those surveyed would select Vice President-elect J.D. Vance as the likely GOP nominee if Trump’s second term ends.
Former Republican presidential candidates Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy trail at 9%, according to the survey.
Roughly 8% will support Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2028 GOP primary.
The poll was conducted from 14–18 November among 1,010 potential voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
