Kieran Culkin joked that he got a role because of how well he imitated a blow job during an audition.
“Succession” starThe 42-year-old recalled intimate details of the casting on the Dec. 13 episode of “The Graham Norton Show.”
The actor is seen with Daniel Craig, 56, Nicola Coughlan, 37, and His “A Real Pain” director and co-star Jesse Eisenberg, 41, chimed in during the conversation with Culkin about audition horror stories.
Culkin explained, “I auditioned for the play ‘Suburbia’ and the playwright was there – Eric Bogosian – and there’s a part where the character has to mimic the buff giving a blow job.”
“And I got the part that day,” he said with a smile, before cutting off Norton and the audience, who started laughing. “No – don’t. Stop. ‘Mime,’ I said.
,[The playwright] Goes, ‘You know what it was?’ It was a shocker,” Culkin recalled.
“And I said, ‘Oh, why? Didn’t any of the other actors take a knee?’ And he says, ‘No, you were the only one who cupped the balls.’
“It’s acting,” Norton replied, and the crowd started laughing loudly.
“Always keep the balls in the cup!” Culkin added, rolling his eyes.
“There’s going to be a dance medley,” Norton said, prompting Craig to almost do a spit-take. “Cup the balls! Cup the balls!”
Culkin acted 2006 Off-Broadway revival of “Suburbia” An anti-normative look at the lives of seven young people who meet in the parking lot of a Pakistani-owned convenience store.
The play opened at Lincoln Center in 1994.
Culkin was Just nominated for a Golden Globe For best performance by an actor in a supporting role for his work in Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain,” which follows mismatched cousins David and Benji when they visit Poland to honor their grandmother. Their adventure becomes complicated as old tensions resurface while discovering their family history.
As Culkin explained on Norton’s show, Eisenberg cast him without even seeing him act in anything.
“They cast me without even auditioning me or seeing me in anything,” the Emmy winner said.
“And he says, ‘Yeah, but that’s OK. I know about you.’ I say, ‘What do you mean?’ He’s like, ‘I’ve met you before.’ We met twice in between!”
“That’s the gist of it,” Eisenberg explained. Look at its essence!”
“I don’t know how to describe it, except it felt absolutely right. She is amazing.”
