Dairy company HP Hood has voluntarily recalled its lactose-free dairy milk, Lactaid, in 27 states due to a possible contact with almonds, the company and the Food and Drug Administration said.
The milk may contain trace amounts of almond that were not listed on the label and could pose a risk if consumed by people with allergies or severe sensitivities to these products.
The FDA says these individuals may be at risk for a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.
HP Hood on Friday recalled 96-ounce containers of whole, 1%, 2%, fat-free and 2% calcium-enriched Lactaid milk that were shipped to retailers and wholesalers from Sept. 5 through Sept. 18.
The problem was discovered during routine maintenance programs, which revealed a possible low almond count.
The states where the recalled milk was sold include Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
There have been no reports of any illness or allergy due to consumption of this product.
This recall only applies to products with the code 51-4109 P2 and specific “Best By” dates Declared by the FDA,
Anyone who purchased a product affected by the recall can return it to the store where it was purchased and receive a full refund or exchange.
