Leah Remini and Angelo Pagan have separated after 21 years of marriage.
The estranged couple announced the news of their divorce in a joint statement. Instagram On Thursday.
“Well, here we are. After 28 years together and 21 years married, we have decided to file for divorce. This decision has been made after a lot of thought and care, and as difficult as divorce is, we are approaching it with a positive attitude because we know it is what is best for us. We are proud of how we have worked through this together,” the statement began.
“Yes, we're sad, and we have some things to figure out as we move forward in our new normal — in many ways we're together, and in some new ways we're apart. But the point is this: We've been best friends for so many years. We're still vacationing together, watching our favorite TV shows together, and gathering as a family.”
After this both of them explained their decision in detail.
“So, the big question is why? Simply put, we both changed, as people change, and we got used to playing roles that no longer suited us,” he explained.
“After a lot of effort and consideration, we have decided to take this step, which reflects who we are today. Our relationship is still strong – it has just evolved into something different. We feel that a marriage that has lasted so long and created so many beautiful memories, especially raising our amazing daughter, is worth celebrating,” they added. “From our perspective, this marriage was a huge success. And now, we are looking forward to creating even more cherished moments – just in a different way.”
The King of Queens alumnus, 54, and Pagan, 56, married in 2003. They met when Pagan was performing in 1996 at El Floridita, a Cuban club and restaurant in Los Angeles.
They had a daughter, Sophia Bella. on June 16, 2004. Pagan also has three sons from a previous relationship – Angelo Jr., Alex, and Nico.
“Leah Remini: It's All Relative” ran for two seasons on TLC from 2014 to 2015.
“We want to be as transparent as possible here, as over the years we have spoken publicly about our marriage, whether it was through our specials on VH1 or our reality show, which ran for two seasons on TLC,” the statement released Thursday said.
They concluded, “We're sharing this uncharted territory with all of you as we take our first steps publicly into this next phase of our lives. We want everyone to have more access to a variety of relationship stories and not feel so isolated in understanding the changes millions of couples go through every year.”
“We hope our journey inspires others to see that relationships — even if they change or end — don't have to fail. We'll continue to share bits of our lives as we move into this new chapter. Love, Leah and Angelo.”
Remini's news comes less than a week after Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck After two years of marriage. In May, Page Six reported that former best friends reconnected in 2022 after a disagreement over Affleck.
Remini warned Lopez to remember the reason she broke up with the “Gone Girl” star when they first dated in 2002: “Because he's selfish and won't fully commit as a partner,” a source said at the time.
Remini did not attend Lopez and Affleck's second wedding ceremony in Georgia.
