As a professional snowboarder, Emile Zinobia spends a lot of time away from home. But her close-knit community in Jackson, WY keeps her energized for the trip and excited to come home. At the center of that community: trappers. As Trapper’s dog mom, Emilee has learned to create an extended family that cares for her and Trapper, and Trapper has shown her how to support that community with unfiltered love and happiness. Watch the video and keep reading to see what a loving community Trapper and Emile have fostered together and what lessons Trapper has taught Emile.

Lesson #1: Open Up

With their everlasting friendliness, endless curiosity, and unwavering loyalty, dogs can open your heart to pieces. Emile learned this from the trapper. “I didn’t have the greatest childhood in the world,” she recalls. “There were elements that I didn’t always get the attention that I wanted, and I think that made me a reserved and guarded person.” ” But Emile finds a devoted companion in Trapper, who wants to be with her forever – showing her that attention goes both ways. Whether she’s traveling for a job, going on a horse packing trip, or splitboarding in the backcountry, Trapper is always eager to get involved. On the occasions when she has to leave Trapper behind, it is heartbreaking, and the depth of their bond sometimes brings her to tears. “It’s just me and him, living our lives together, and it’s worth opening up to a relationship like that,” Emile says.

Lesson #2: Find happiness in the small things

We’ve all seen dogs enjoying rolling in the grass or getting a belly rub from their favorite human. “I think we often assume we’ll see people again, so we take moments for granted,” says Emile. “But every moment is potentially a critical moment, depending on how you contextualize it.” Trapper has shown Emile how to make every moment count – whether it’s going for a walk or simply enjoying being outside. When Emile returned home after a recent trip she took a page from the trapper’s playbook. “I would walk around the yard and be amazed at the beautiful landscapes around me,” she says. “After a while, I was smiling, and I thought, ‘Wow, Trapper’s like that all the time. Feels.'” Now, that feeling is something Emile longs for every day.

Lesson #3: Be Adaptable

Emile loves the way Trapper adapts quickly to any scenario. “I had to adapt to a lot of different things growing up,” she says. Trapper happily goes to the ocean with Emile while she reads a book or catches a wave, or goes on mountain bike rides with her. Will lie down on the shore. Dogs have to be especially adaptable because they don’t know what’s going to happen next. To keep Trapper excited and ready for whatever adventures the day brings, Emile is careful about what she feeds him. “If he’s not feeling nurtured, we can’t go on big bike rides,” she says. If he hasn’t eaten well, Emile can see how it affects the way he performs. he recently switched Hill’s Pet Nutrition Science Diet Sensitive Stomach and Skin And so far Trapper is swallowing his kibble straight up, which is new to him. “He’s not like, ‘Hey lady, where’s my topper?'”

Lesson #4: Live life on your own terms

While Trapper is a friendly, huggable dog, he is not one to be pressured into doing anything. For example, he’s a little reserved at the dog park until he finds a dog he really bonds with. Emile appreciates this behaviour. “I think there’s this idea that we always need to behave the way society expects us to, which is like greeting everyone and being proud of everyone,” she says. She has an impulse to say hello to other dogs and encourage her to run around, but she has learned that Trapper does not play with other dogs until he is ready. Emilee appreciates the lesson she learned to be allowed to be who she is without judgment. “He does things his own way and connects the way he wants to connect.”
