Like Heeramandi, here are 6 of the most expensive Indian movie and web series sets that cost multiple crores

The Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma-starrer film tanked at the box office and even had the actors writing it off as the worst pick of their independent careers. However, the production design, which reflected 1950s Mumbai to the T, was a certified winner. The set cost a whopping Rs 16 crore, but even then, Anurag Kashyap and his team decided to film the movie in Sri Lanka in order to cut costs.

5. Porus (2017)

The most expensive TV show in India isn’t one you’d expect. According to DNA, the title goes to Porus, a series that aired on Sony Entertainment Television between 2017 and 2021. Based on the Battle of the Hydaspes, the epic historical series, which has 249 episodes and had an extravagant set, cost a ridiculous Rs 500 crore, according to DNA.

The Mughals were known for their glittering courts, and the reign of Emperor Akbar marked the dynasty’s most illustrious period. The set of Ashutosh Gowariker’s 2008 classic movie, which stars Hrithik Roshan as Akbar, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Jodhaa Bai, the Emperor’s favourite wife, reflected this grandeur. Set designer Nitin Desai even managed to replicate the exact interiors of the Amer Fort and Agra Fort, along with the latter’s Deewan-i-aam, Deewan-i-khas, Jodha Maha, and Mughal Gardens. According to DNA, the stunning set was created on a budget of Rs 12 crore.
