Farhan Akhtar’s debut film boasts of a cult following to this day, and one big reason behind this is the fact that it was ahead of its times. While other Bollywood movies shied away from depicting a love story between a pair with a significant age gap, Akhtar, through Sid (Akshaye Khanna) dove headlong into the taboo subject. While the relationship between Sid and the much older Tara (Dimple Kapadia) wasn’t the focal point of this timeless movie, it certainly broke convention, in Indian cinema at least, at the time.
7. Miller’s Girl (2024)
Jenna Ortega thrills (and creeps out) audiences with her depiction of Cairo, a wealthy, 18-year-old student in her senior year in high school who becomes obsessed with her creative writing class teacher Jonathan Miller (Martin Freeman). Despite his moral compass, Miller, a failed author in an unhappy marriage, finds it harder and harder to resist the temptation of an illicit affair with Cairo. The result, however, isn’t anything you’d expect.
