Animal experts are trying to trace the origins of a toad found in a bag of salad at a supermarket.
Graham Martin, from Berkshire Reptile Rescue, said he was asked by staff at the Waitrose distribution centre in Bracknell to take the animal away on Monday.
They had been keeping the frog in isolation ever since it was collected, as it was unclear whether it had come from abroad.
Graham said: “We've spoken to a number of reptile experts and have narrowed it down to a few species.”
“But I will likely keep her as a pet (hopefully it will be a girl because girls get older).”
Graham explains that he has limited the species of toads to two: “Bufo bufo which is the common native toad of this country, or Bufo spinosus which is a native of France and Spain.”
“They look so similar!”
Waitrose has been asked to comment.
