A Long Island woman and her friends carjacked a stranger and kidnapped him, then shot him outside a church — all because he parked in front of her house, authorities said.
Now 22-year-old Kayla Alvarenga and a crew of accomplices — including 27-year-old alleged triggerman Christopher Perdomo and five teenagers — have been charged with murder for the shocking 2022 slaying in Bay Shore, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. said in a statement This week.
“The alleged murder in this case was unprovoked and without good reason,” Tierney said. “Nobody deserves a violent death just for parking a car.”
Tierney said the Sept. 16, 2022 incident unfolded when Alvarenga parked his red Chevy Camaro outside his home on Fifth Avenue just before midnight to argue with the victim, Linvar Ortiz Ponce, 29, of Central Islip. Started, Tierney said.
Authorities said Ortiz Ponce refused to move, so Alvarenga allegedly asked for help from some friends – including Perdomo, two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old.
The four arrived at Alvarenga’s home in a stolen BMW, which they had robbed a few hours earlier, pulled Ortiz Ponce out of his car and beat him, Tierney said.
They then stole his car and fled, as surveillance camera footage from a nearby gas station showed.
The beaten victim also ran away, and tried to hide himself among parked cars at the Fifth Avenue gas station.
Alvarenga reportedly witnessed this, then called Perdomo and his crew to find Ortiz Ponce and kill him.
He reportedly brought along two more minors – 16 and 17 year olds – and they all got into a stolen Camaro and a stolen BMW to hunt down Ortiz Ponce.
When they found him, they forced him into a BMW at gunpoint, brought him to the nearby House of Prayer Church of God – which Alvarenga believed did not have cameras – and, according to the DA, turned Beat him again. And News 12’s reporting at that time.
However, that apparently wasn’t enough for the bloodthirsty kingpin – prosecutors claim Alvarenga allegedly ordered Perdomo to shoot Ortiz Ponce.
Tierney said Perdomo shot the wounded man multiple times as he tried to crawl away.
They fled the scene, he said, abandoning the Camaro and BMW and taking an Uber back to Alvarenga’s home.
Authorities arrested Perdomo in Georgia, where he arrived in May, and charged him last Wednesday with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery and conspiracy, Tierney said.
If found guilty, he faces life in prison without parole and has been remanded before trial.
Alvarenga will be arraigned on Oct. 30, Tierney said.
Each underage offender has also been taken into custody and charges are pending, he said.
