North Carolina voters on Tuesday elevated state Attorney General Josh Stein to the governor’s office, rejecting scandal-plagued Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson.
According to the Associated Press report, Stein received 775,821 votes (51.7%), while Robinson received 653,335 votes (43.6%), a share of 25%.
Stein replaces fellow Democrat Roy Cooper, who has served since 2016 and is term limited.
