Accused CEO killer Luigi Mangione is expected to face federal charges in the coming days – On top of the charge of first-degree New York state murder According to law enforcement sources, he was attacked on Tuesday.
Federal prosecutors have secured a grand jury indictment against the 26-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a Midtown Manhattan street on Dec. 4, sources told The Post.
It is unclear when the indictment against Mangione will be unsealed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. The impending federal charges against him were also not immediately known.
Mangione was slapped with an enhanced first-degree rap by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday so she faces two second-degree murder counts.
He has denied carrying out the high-profile murder.
Mangione was captured days after the murder in Pennsylvania, after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg called it a “planned targeted murder.”
While the Ivy Leaguer is currently in custody in the Keystone State, he is expected to be granted a waiver of extradition and flown back to the Big Apple on Thursday.
The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment. The post sought comment from Mangione’s attorney, Karen Friedman-Agnifilioand the Manhattan DA’s Office.
If he is convicted of state first-degree murder charges, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
