Luke Combs is one of the hottest names in country music, and he has been for several years now. Even he must be surprised, though, at the incredible popularity of some of his tunes, as a pair of his most successful tracks earn coveted awards in the U.S. at the same time.
Two of Combs’ songs have been certified diamond by the RIAA. Both “Hurricane” and “When It Rains It Pours” have snagged the honor, which is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious in the American music industry.
The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) certifies both songs and albums diamond once they shift 10 million units in the U.S. alone. That number includes both pure sales and streaming equivalents, as platforms like Spotify have become the go-to way for millions to access the music they love.
Both of Combs’ tracks collected the honor on August 14. Landing one diamond single is usually a career highlight for any musician, so two at once must be nearly overwhelming for the country superstar.
The two songs had been very close to diamond status for the past year now, so it’s not shocking that they finally advanced to 10 million units shifted. “Hurricane” and “When It Rains It Pours” were certified nine-times platinum in June 2023, and they’ve been holding at that level ever since.
Impressively, Combs already had a diamond-certified song to his credit before this latest round of wins. In the summer of 2023, his single “Beautiful Crazy” was certified diamond.
As he collects two diamond plaques, Combs also saw several other releases earn new honors from the RIAA. His album What You See Is What You Get advanced to five-times platinum status, while his newer offering Gettin’ Old is finally a platinum win. Meanwhile, his cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” is now a quintuple platinum smash—more than five times the one million units it had shifted as of last summer.
