Marilyn Manson has been a controversial figure from the very outset of his career. From his lyrics to the imagery he shares in his music videos, the hard rock musician has never been shy about courting bad press or receiving scathing op-eds and critiques. Lately, though, the superstar has been embroiled in a different kind of public trouble—but that hasn’t stopped him from scoring a new hit.
The singer-songwriter’s new single “As Sick As The Secrets Within” becomes a smash straight away on the Billboard charts in America. The tune debuts at No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tally this week, a roster that ranks the bestselling individual tunes in the hard rock genre.
“As Sick As The Secrets Within” marks Manson’s second career No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. He first hit the top spot in 2020, in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. His single “We Are Chaos” only needed two frames to hit the highest rung on the purchase-focused roster, where it ruled for just one stint.
Manson earns his first new win on the hard rock sales list in four years. After collecting his inaugural champion in August 2020, he returned with another top 10 hit the following month. Since then, the musician has been otherwise preoccupied with a number of legal cases that see him defending himself against serious accusations of abuse.
All told, Manson has now landed 10 top 10 hits on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. He’s placed a total of 13 tracks on the ranking, which for a time featured more than 10 spaces. Now, any tune that lands on the ranking at any point immediately becomes a top 10 smash.
According to Luminate, “As Sick As The Secrets Within” sold 1,300 copies in its first tracking week. That’s not a very large number, though apparently it’s big enough to make the tune the bestseller in its genre.
For the moment, “As Sick As The Secrets Within” appears to be a standalone track. The song may end up being the first taste of a forthcoming album, though for now, Manson is letting the single lead.
