But Daddy, I love Taylor Swift!
Meta co-founder Mark Zuckerberg revealed in a recent interview how he immediately put an end to his daughter's dreams of becoming like the pop megastar.
The tech tycoon went on the “Acquired” podcast earlier this month and revealed a conversation in which he quelled his middle child's desire to be like the global icon.
“We took her to a Taylor Swift concert and she said, 'Dad, I want to be like Taylor Swift when I grow up,'” Zuckerberg said. “I said, 'But you can't do that. That's not possible for you.'”
The father of three didn't tell podcast hosts Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal why professional singing at that level isn't “available” for his daughter August, but he said that during their conversation, she eventually changed her mind and said she wanted to be herself.
“She thought about it and she said, 'Well, when I grow up I want people to be like August Chan Zuckerberg,'” the father of three said.
Coincidentally, their middle child's name is the same as the track “August” from Swift's Grammy-nominated album “Folklore.”
The Meta CEO has been a fan and supporter of Swift — despite not wanting his daughter to become a billionaire poet.
He attended The Eras Tour in Santa Clara in July 2023 with his wife Priscilla and daughters and even posted a photo of himself wearing friendship bracelets and a gemstone embellished face with the caption “The life of a girl’s dad.”
For this prestigious concert, he reportedly spent a lot of money to buy a box suite for his family for the show. The suite, located at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, is reportedly Cost up to $50,000 And it can seat 22 people.
His comments about the “Lover” singer on the podcast have garnered mixed reactions on social media.
“Sure, Taylor Swift is a once in twenty lifetimes musical talent, but nobody can have their dreams shattered just like that,” one user on Reddit said.
“He sent his daughter off to her Reputation era. Hope she makes all the music she wants,” another wrote.
“I'm sure any kid who has plenty of it will be just fine,” someone commented on the social media platform.
Zuckerberg and his wife have three daughters: Maxima, 8 years old, August, 6 years old, and Auriella, 13 months old.
The topic came up on the podcast when he discussed the advice he'd give to founders in 2024. He encouraged people to “do something you love,” learn as quickly as you can and “learn from the successes and failures of others but do your own thing.”
