A Massachusetts man got stuck inside a chimney in a failed attempt to channel Ol’ St. Nick while trying to escape police Tuesday night.
Fall River Police Department officers attempted to raid the man’s Canal Street home in the small New England town – but he was later captured on Christmas Day.
As the police knocked on the front door, they saw two people running away from the house through the roof, According to 10WJAR,
One jumped from the roof, while the other, Robert Langlias, inspired by Father Christmas, jumped down the chimney.
“(A person) took advantage of the weather sign and attempted to hide inside the chimney,” police said in a statement. “(He) immediately became trapped in the chimney and required the assistance of the same detectives he was running from earlier.”
bodycam footage Video shared by the police department shows the moment responding police officers climbed onto the roof and encountered Langlias, who was deep in the flames.
“You’re an idiot,” one officer said, waving a flashlight as the camera panned toward Langlias, 33, trapped inside the base of the chimney.
Officials confirmed that the suspect was indeed trapped, but was able to breathe, while they called the fire department to come and rescue Santa Claus.
“Get me out of here, brother!” According to the footage, Langlias pleaded with the same policemen from whom he had tried to hide.
In the video firefighters can be seen taking apart the chimney brick-by-brick from inside the house, while Langlias waits helplessly to be taken into custody.
“Due to Santa-like actions, Langlias was taken to a local hospital as a precaution and was medically cleared,” police said.
The other wanted party jumped from the roof and onto a car, damaged the car and fled before the police could arrest him.
Langlias has been charged with multiple counts of possession of Class A drugs, possession of Class B drugs and outstanding warrants.
Tanisha Ibe, 32, also faces Class A and Class B drug possession charges arising from the incident after being arrested at the property with less fanfare.
