A massive fire broke out in the rear outdoor dining area of a Brooklyn hotel early Wednesday, the FDNY said.
According to the FDNY, the fire broke out just after 2 a.m. in a tent-like area set up behind the Moxy Brooklyn Williamsburg on Bedford Avenue near South 5th Street.
The FDNY said there were no injuries and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
Videos captured by nearby residents showed a thick plume of smoke and flames rising from the structure.
Department officials said 20 fire and EMS units comprising 78 personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control by around 3:15 am.
According to the FDNY, about 215 hotel rooms were occupied at the time of the fire — and those who evacuated have been able to return.
Alison Stone Hatem — who lives behind the hotel — told LoudlabsNewsNYC that she and several of her fellow building residents evacuated on their own.
“My husband actually looked out our back window, and I think the noise woke him up, and we saw that the entire tent in the backyard area of Bar Bedford was completely engulfed in flames,” she said at the hotel. said, referring to an establishment in the lobby of. “(We) grabbed both our children, I wore my wedding jewelery and ran out of the apartment.
