Mayor Eric Adams is being frank about his stance on the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest drama.
“Stop being such weenies! It would be ‘impossible’ to have this year’s Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest without Joey Chestnut,” Hizzoner wrote Wednesday on X, linking to The Post’s explosive revelation that the perennial winner would be banned from this year’s contest.
“Let’s find a way to squash this beef and bring back the champ for another 4th of July at Coney Island!”
Chestnut — who has won the Coney Island contest 16 times — will not be allowed to compete this year over a deal he made to represent rival brand Impossible Foods, which recently launched a vegan weenie.
According to the Major League Eating, which Nathan’s sanctions to run the event, Chestnut has known about the hot dog exclusivity provisions for the nearly two decades he has been scarfing down record-breaking franks.
Chestnut himself says he’s “gutted” that he won’t be allowed to defend his title this year — but the MLE says he has no one to blame but himself.
“The two sides could still come to a resolution before July 4, but it depends on Joey,” an insider told The Post earlier this week.
Chestnut, 40, has an estimated net worth of $4 million. He won the July 4 event in 16 of the past 17 years, wolfing down 62 hot dogs and buns in 2023.
He devoured 62 hot dogs and buns in 2023, falling short of his world record 76 dogs and buns in 2021.
