At a very young age, Aryaman Birla had decided to step away from the family business and embark on a cricketing career. He made his first-class debut during the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season, with the cricketer‘s highest score being 103. He was India’s highest U-23 run scorer in 2017.
As for his decision to choose cricket over business at the time, Aryaman Birla had shared with the Economic Times, “It was not at one point where I thought this is what I am going to do or this is what I have to do. I have played [cricket] since a very young age. It was a gradual process that kept building. It started when I was seven or eight, watching a lot of cricket on TV, talking cricket, playing cricket and then I played more and more. I did well and got the opportunity to play for the state. Things progressed over a period of time and I became a cricketer. I was lucky to be able to try and do what I really love.”
In the 2018 IPL auction, Rajasthan Royals bought Aryaman Birla and the cricketer was a part of the IPL team for two seasons. In 2019, Aryaman took an indefinite sabbatical from cricket owing to severe anxiety. The cricketer had shared on his Instagram page: “It has been a journey of hard work, dedication and immense courage to get to this point in my cricket career. I have been coping with severe anxiety related to the sport for a while now. I have felt trapped. I have pushed myself through all the distress so far, but now I feel the need to put my mental health and wellbeing above [anything] else. So I have decided to take an undefined sabbatical from cricket. This phase has been difficult, but it has also helped me realise who my real friends and well-wishers are. I truly believe I will emerge from this phase even stronger than before.”
