Meet Ratan Tata’s brother Noel Tata
Noel Tata dons many hats under the Tata Group. He is the Chairman of Trent (Tata’s retail company), Tata International, Voltas and Tata Investment Corporation. Noel is also the Vice Chairman of Tata Steel and Titan (brands include Fastrack, Tanishq and Titan Eyeplus). The reputable businessman serves as a trustee on the board of both Sir Ratan Tata Trust (since 2019) and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. He is also on the board of Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited and Smiths Plc.
In 1999, Noel Tata was announced as the Managing Director of Trent. His leadership role changed to Vice Chairman in 2012 and Chairman in 2014. Brands under Trent include Westside, Star Bazaar, Zara, Massimo, Zudio, and more. Westside, in particular, is Noel’s most profitable venture as the fashion store now has over 200 stores across India.
According to the Economic Times, Trent’s market capitalization, as of December 2023, touched Rs 1 lakh crore, becoming the fifth listed Tata company to achieve the milestone. Noel Tata graduated from Sussex University in the UK, and has also completed the International Executive Programme (IEP) from INSEAD). He is married to Aloo Mistry, who is the daughter of Pallonji Mistry, the late Chairman of Shapoorji Pallonji Group. Pallonji was a major shareholder of Tata Group.
Ratan Tata and Noel Tata share the same father, the late Naval Tata. Ratan is Naval and his first wife Sooni Commissariat’s son, while Noel is Naval and his second wife Simone Tata’s (née Dunoyer, a businesswoman from Switzerland) son. Notably, Noel holds an Irish citizenship.
