Anurag Basu seems to be betting on the idea that love stories are timeless. Metro In Dino comes 17 years after Life in a Metro (2007), which, to its credit, created waves for its unapologetic portrayal of modern love at a time when Bollywood was still obsessed with happy-ever-afters. Metro In Dino’s star cast — Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur, Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma and Pankaj Tripathi and Fatima Sana Shaikh and Ali Fazal — certainly holds appeal, but it’ll be the film’s nostalgia value driving audiences back to the theatre.
However, Metro In Dino is far from the only sequel to look forward to in 2024. From Singham Again, which boasts of a powerhouse cast of Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and others to Dune: Part Two starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, the year ahead brings with it some exciting follow-ups. The Rajkummar Rao-starrer horror comedy Stree is also set to return with a part two and Allu Arjun is ready to smash global box office records with Pushpa 2: The Rule. 1. Pushpa 2: The Rule
Release date: 15 August
Pushpa 2: The Rule will see Allu Arjun reprising his role as Pushpa Raj, who went from being a labourer in the illegal trade of red sandalwood in the forests of Tirupati to the one controlling the entire syndicate. The movie, which will again feature Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil as Pushpa’s wife Srivalli and SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, is being made on a budget of Rs 350 crore and is scheduled to hit theatres on Independence Day.
