Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore broke his silence about the 2024 election on Wednesday and attacked Americans as “not good people” for electing Donald Trump to a second term by a wide margin.
In contrast, the progressive director and activist offered full confidence ahead of the election, predicting that Trump would be “amazing” against Vice President Kamala Harris.
“If you stop and think about it, we’ve had a lot of doozies throughout our history,” he wrote. In a post on MichelMoore.com. “Like the genocide of 20 million Native Americans. Or enslaving 12 million kidnapped Africans. Or we invaded Vietnam and killed 4 million Asians for no reason. We are not good people.”
After saying that America has “a long list of bad deeds that led us straight to last week,” he criticized “a 34-time convicted felon, a fascist, and a civilly charged and convicted sex abuser.” Ridiculed fellow citizens for choosing us.” 47th President of the United States.”
Moore’s current feelings about Americans are a sharp contrast to what he said before the election.
On November 3, two days before the election, he appeared on MSNBC and cheered his fellow citizens: “The majority of Americans do not want this division, they do not want the threat of violence. It’s okay for us to disagree with each other, but that’s where it ends.”
Portraying Americans as a largely innocuous group, the filmmaker added, “We go to vote, whoever wins, wins. Half the time, I was very happy who won, and half the time, I didn’t. And we move on with our lives.
He confidently predicted on MSNBC that Trump was “toast”, saying of Trump’s supporters: “I think they’re going to be very surprised — I’m talking about the Trump people and MAGA nation — that It’s going to happen on Tuesday.”
“I feel the same way I felt a few weeks ago, that Trump is absolutely ready. I feel it more now.”
In October, he joked, “The Democrats, they’re such a scared group of people,” telling the CNN host, “I mean, they still think Trump is going to win.”
But in his post-election critique on MichaelMoore.com, the director rebuked the Democrats and the Harris campaign: “It’s possible that history might be kinder to us if, next time, the working class chooses our candidate to side with Wall Street’s billionaires. Don’t see the campaign being promoted or supported by war criminals.
Moore concluded by calling for kindness: “The first step in countering Trump’s crusade of cruelty, hatred, bigotry, misogyny, ignorance and fear is for each of us, in our daily lives, to be kind.”
The director also asked his supporters to “forgive someone”. “Just because you know you should,” he said without naming names. Because it’s been a long time. Because it’s the right thing to do.”
