Michigan GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers rallies for black support at Detroit church

Detroit, Michigan – Michigan GOP Senate candidates mike rogers Gave a speech at a Detroit church on Tuesday, joining Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Pastor Lorenzo Sewell in an eleventh-hour appeal to black voters in the swing state.

Rogers, a former congressman from Michigan, faced a tough race against Democratic Rep. alyssa slotkinpresented an optimistic vision of Republican progress among black voters – a voting bloc that has been dominated by Democrats for decades.

“We can feel it There is movement here,Rogers said. “People are saying, hey, I’m not sure I’m a Republican, and we’re saying you don’t have to say you’re a Republican. We just need you to be open to some ideas and some solutions instead of trying the same thing over and over again and getting the same results.

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott Supporting Rogers in front of the mostly black panel, he told her: “We must go where we are not invited. Don’t wait for an invitation—just show up. I’d say the proof is in the pudding. “When you come forward, the community is receptive.”

Although they strategized ways to win the black vote, attendees acknowledged that the Democrats would still win an overwhelming majority from black Americans.

Present panelist Malik Shelton argued that black voters “programmed and induced by the media,” and the “heritage or tradition” of voting for Democrats.

“You have these minions that come out and they are customized to look like that. And they tell them, don’t vote for those Republicans. They are bad people. They are bad people. They are racist. Keep voting for Democrats. But if it’s really explained to them, they’ll see it because they’re living in it,” he added.

After the event, Scott told a reporter that Republicans had made gains – no matter how small – among black voters.The election may still be decided.

“What we know today is that we are in extreme heat. So just about anything can break that intense heat,” the senator said.

“The good news is Mike Rogers has done what you need to do. You have to be everywhere, at the same time. Theoretically speaking, he is doing this by already having connections with the community.”

Pastor Sewell, who gave a pro-Trump speech at the Republican National Convention Hosted Trump campaign events at his church, told The Post that his discussions about politics in a church setting are hardly unusual.

“The Bible is a political book. When you look at Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, they were political people,” Sewell said.

The pastor added, “Our congregation is getting equipped every Friday for ‘Souls to the Poles’.”

“We have a political discussion. We’re not asking people to vote Republican or Democrat. We just present the facts.”
