This email certainly wasn’t junk.
A Michigan woman discovered that she won a $207,199 lottery prize from a suspicious-looking email in her spam folder.
The 54-year-old winner from Macomb County, who chose to remain anonymous, initially dismissed the email because she did not realize that her name had automatically been entered for the drawing of the BIG CA$H Second Chance Jackpot prize.
“I didn’t know that by playing certain games online I was earning entries into a second chance drawing, so I was confused when I came across an email from the Michigan Lottery in my spam folder saying I’d won a $207,199 BIG CA$H Second Chance jackpot prize,” the woman told the Michigan Lottery.
But further research revealed that she actually had, in fact, won.
“After looking into it, I figured out how I had earned the entries, and then I checked three different times to make sure the email was real,” she said.
The big win “couldn’t have come at a better time,” she added.
She plans to pay off some bills and make some investments with the windfall.
Portions of every purchase of certain Michigan Lottery online games fund a progressive jackpot prize which is awarded in a second chance drawing each month.
Every $0.50 wagered in the games earns players one entry.
Since the BIG CA$H Second Chance games launched in 2022, players have won more than $8 million in progressive prizes, according to the lottery.
