A military judge ruled Wednesday that the death sentence will remain in effect in a plea to spare 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two other terrorists.
The surprise move comes three months after Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Shocking plea deals canceled Mohammed and two alleged associates were handed over by the Office of Military Commissions in July.
The order, issued by Air Force Colonel and judge Matthew McCall at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was first reported by The Associated Press and has not yet been posted publicly.
