Zoomers have been accused of massacring the Macarena by adding their own moves to the iconic dance routine, as detailed in a TikTok video with nearly 9 million views.

“Yo I feel so old, why are they dancing the Macarena like this,” wondered aghast millennial Arleth Lopez in this video of the alleged loco-motion, which occurred at an unspecified venue.

First seen in the video for Los Del Río’s hit 1993 song of the same name, the nostalgic routine was a fixture among children growing up in the 90s.

The classic choreography involved outstretching arms one at a time, flipping one’s palms over, and crossing one’s arms across their chest like a mummy.

They then place them on the head and hips, before finishing with a wiggling hip thrust and jump.

The dancer then repeats this sequence while oriented in a different direction.

However, in the aforementioned clip, some 20-somethings are seen literally putting their own spin on the Macarena by rolling their arms, turning, and then doing a wave motion with their arms.

“What the f–k,” exclaims Lopez while filming the so-called dance floor defilers.

Needless to say, commenters were appalled by the interpretative dance routine with one critic spluttering, “THAT IS NOT THE MACARENA.”

“WAIT WHAT WAS THATTTTT,” gasped another.

A third exclaimed, “I have not once ever seen someone dance to this song like that. I feel like I should be concerned in a way.”

We would say that Gen Z is simply dancing to the beat of their own drum except these so-called generational appropriators have been accused of rebranding everything from eating leftovers to “millennial cringe core.”
