Even though the next major Minecraft update, Minecraft 1.22, has not been announced just yet, we can still speculate about what it could bring to the game. So, we have compiled this guide to provide you with some interesting theories about the next update, at least until it is finally announced. Let’s discuss when the Minecraft 1.22 update could be released and what features, mobs, and biomes, it may bring.
Minecraft 1.22 Update Release Date (Expected)
Taking into account the release date of the previous significant updates (check the table below), it’s pretty safe to assume that Minecraft 1.22 will likely be released around June 2025. This update can be delayed a bit or released before June, depending on the contents of the update.
Update | Release Date |
---|---|
Minecraft 1.21 | June 13th, 2024 |
Minecraft 1.20 | June 7th, 2023 |
Minecraft 1.19 | June 7th, 2022 |
Minecraft 1.22 Name (Speculated)
I don’t know about you, but I would love to think Minecraft 1.22 is the End Update since that’s something the community wants the most and it seems like the next most important feature that desperately needs an overhaul.
This idea is also supported by the Ender Cup event organized very recently by Mojang and the MCC team. It seems like the developers chose the name to be related to the End and because of that may be hinting at the possibility of the much-requested End Update. This would be amazing news, and I cannot be happier about it.
Furthermore, the fact that the Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials update focused on only one structure in particular and didn’t affect any biome whatsoever, may hint at the possibility of Mojang preparing something grand, perhaps the End Update….? Do you want the End Update to be the next major Minecraft release? Be sure to leave your opinion in the comments section below.
However, some other theories point at the update being an Ambient Update, Biome Update, or perhaps even an Inventory Update with the addition of bundles in Minecraft.
These are just speculations, but the latest snapshots and previews may indicate which update is in the works. Until we find out about that, feel free to check out our article on things Mojang should add in Minecraft 1.22 for even more ideas and speculations.
New Mobs in Minecraft 1.22 (Speculated)
If Minecraft 1.22 ends up being the End dimension update, well then the list of possible new mobs should be close to endless (puns intended), right? There should be new passive mounts, scary Enderman cousins, flying hostile ranged creatures, and even more teleporty mobs.
If the update is focused on improving Overworld biomes and ambiance, then I assume most new mobs will be real-life animals that are passive and affect the vibe of the area. Since the previous update focused on hostile mobs, then the idea of this update adding various passive and neutral mobs may not be so impossible.
New Biomes in Minecraft 1.22 (Speculated)
The Nether update introduced five detailed and unique biomes to this fiery dimension. The End Update already has five different biomes, so my guess is that there will be no additional biomes to the End Update, but the existing ones should be revamped and renamed.
The fact that all of these areas are made of the same blocks and look and feel pretty much identical, it’s no wonder not everyone knows there are different biomes in the End. There should be a forest biome that provides wood, a dangerous biome with gaps in terrain and slow-moving mobs, and some chill areas that act as some sort of a checkpoint to calm you down after a stressful journey over the void.
The Nether biomes are essentially perfect, while Overworld has many areas that can be improved, such as the forests and the desert. However, there are only three cave biomes in the game, so I would love if more were added to tie in the underground world even better.
New Features in Minecraft 1.22 (Expected)
While sticking with the idea Minecraft 1.22 might be the End Update, new features and blocks it may bring can only be amazing.
First things first, the blocks would have space and alien vibes written all over them, as well as the color purple as the main inspiration. Maybe they could be related to both the End dimension and the deep dark (lore alert!).
Items would range from interesting food sources and epic new armor trims to perhaps new overpowered enchantments and gear. Since the End is the final dimension you visit and has the game’s boss, then the loot should absolutely be worth the risk. Not only that; there should also be a place for all the loot to be stored and guarded, which means a new tricky structure would be perfect alongside End cities.
However, let’s not get too carried away with the End features and think about the other possible additions to the game. New decorative blocks are always welcome, as well as variations to some existing ones, such as stairs and slabs of terracotta and concrete blocks.
Moreover, redstone wire and minecarts both received some improvements and changes in the latest snapshot. So, we could be looking at hints for new redstone blocks and minecart-related blocks and new entities.
On the other hand, when we think about the April Fools Poisonous Potato update we received this year, there could be various new major update features hiding in there. It brought a dimension full of brand-new world generation, mobs, items, and structures. There were new decorative blocks, bosses, gear, and even a grappling gun.
It’s very possible that this joke update might’ve provided devs with an opportunity to test out some new features and systems before the actual major update. There are even a bunch of possible hints at the End Update once again, so let’s cross our fingers and hope it’s going to happen.
With that said, those are some of the speculations and theories we can share with you before the Minecraft 1.22 update is announced. What is your favorite idea? Would you prefer the End Update or Biome Update? Feel free to share your thoughts with our community in the comments below.
