A missing 17-year-old from Texas was reunited with her mother more than 60 miles away from her home four days after leaving a frightening “goodbye” note on her pillow saying she would be gone for a “long time.”
Geneva Hodge disappeared from her home in Bellville Wednesday morning and had been missing for hours when her mother, Francis Schrader, discovered a bizarre note on her bed, according to KHOU.
“‘This will be the last time that you’ll hear from me for a very long time and it says I love you mom, I’ll always be your little girl,’” Schrader said the note from her daughter read.
The worried mother immediately feared her daughter was in imminent danger and speculated Hodge was persuaded or coached when writing the note.
“Everybody’s read this letter and they’re like, that’s not Geneva. That’s just not her,” she said.
Prior to the teen’s disappearance, Schrader explained the pair got into an argument about a romantic relationship she was allegedly having with an older man, according to the DailyMail.com.
Her mother explained that Hodge had left her cell phone, taken no clothes, and had not used her debit card while missing.
She was worried that her daughter, who was gearing up to enter her senior year of High School, might be in danger of being human trafficked after she was spotted with an older man, the DailyMail.com reported.
Fortunately for the family, on Sunday — four days after Hodge vanished — a stranger called the mother’s number using a missing poster flyer for the teen to say they had found her daughter.
Schrader then drove to Spring, Texas, about 63 miles from her home, to pick up the daughter.
The Bellville Police Department confirmed that Hodge was found Sunday.
“She’s doing good. She slept for a while today,” the teen’s mother told the DailyMail.com.
Schrader explained that when she discovered the note and no trace of her daughter, she was “completely heartbroken.”
“It felt like my heart was ripped out of my chest,” she explained.
Schrader shared that she hadn’t “smiled” since discovering that her daughter went missing, but has been “glowing” since she was found.
While details about where Hodge was for nearly a week are scarce, private investigator Colman Ryan, who worked with Schrader to find her daughter, told KHOU that something about her disappearance seemed off.
“She says and the closest people around her have said, that’s not her, something’s wrong here. I agree. Who would know better,” Ryan said.
