An Australian mom has gone viral on TikTok for criticizing the indiscriminate parking act at her local shopping centre.
But what she thought was a black-and-white situation has become much more controversial, as people on both sides of the aisle weigh in on her dilemma.
‘Irrational’ act
This week, Steph Arneil, a mother of two in Queensland, on TikTok @stephanneilTook the app to share the experience they had at their local shopping centre.
In the video, Steph is seen coming out of the shops with a pram when she sees another car parked across the line in her car’s space.
Seeing that she has overturned her car in space, Steph’s first concern is whether the boot of her car will even open.
But, when that happens, his next concern is how to get his car inside.
“I don’t know how I’m going to get my pram inside,” she says in the viral video.
“Anyway to maneuver it?”
Steph talks about how ‘inattentive’ the driver of the other car is, and also says that she decided to leave a note on the car upon her departure.
“Not to be dramatic, but what if I couldn’t open the boot of my car?” He said.
‘Don’t reverse!’
Although Steph probably posted the video thinking that the majority of people would be on her side, it quickly became clear that that wasn’t going to be the case.
His comments section was almost immediately filled with people calling him dramatic and saying that his problem could be easily solved.
“If you need to use your boot, don’t turn it upside down!” One commentator said.
“As a kind owner, I see nothing wrong with how they are parked,” said another.
“Yes, it’s across the border, but most parking spaces are very small, making it hard for kids to park.”
“I mean you could just drive your car,” said a third.
“I don’t think it’s that big of a bother, yes but not the end of the world.”
‘Are you all really missing the point?’
However, many people jumped to her defense in the comments, especially fellow moms.
“Everyone who says ‘just move the car’ are the same people who will park like a red car,” said one.
“Not Rivers Park comments are wild. Are you all really missing the point?” said another.
“The ute was parked incorrectly… regardless of how the OP parked.”
Another said, “Until you become a mother, you won’t understand the discomfort and inner anger it causes.”
“I can’t believe how many people are blaming you in some way, when that person is literally inside your parking spaceA fourth was added.
Steph replied to a comment on the original video, explaining that she had parked in a specific pram car park in the hope that it would give her the extra space she needed, but unfortunately she didn’t.
“I was parked in a spot specifically for parents with prams, and it still ended up being the same,” she said.
