New York – It’s been a fall full of dry weather Wildfire battle across NortheastBut while fire weather warnings once again cover the region this week, the extended forecast offers some hope for relief.
A major storm system that will bring a variety of impressive weather to the Midwest, Plains and Great Lakes this week looks like it will also include something for the Northeast: significant rainfall.
The storm appears to be getting a new shot of energy as it approaches the Great Lakes region at the end of the week, just in time to unleash some of its new power as it moves toward the Northeast over the weekend.
Current long-range forecasts indicate that a cold front associated with the system will bring rain or perhaps even thunderstorms to the Northeast.
This rain looked heavy compared to the light rain that fell across the region last weekend, though every little bit of rain helped, typically measured under a half-inch or even a few tenths of an inch.
New York City has not seen a quarter-inch of rain in a single day since September 29, while in Philadelphia this trend continues through September 7.
While this much rain alone will do nothing to end it drought conditions – This will take about 10 inches – This will greatly reduce the risk of wildfire by wetting the plants and soil in the area.
There will be an autumnal cool to ride across the front – with light snowfall also possible in the inland Northeast.
